How much does a surgery cost?

The patient’s medical evaluation is required for diagnosis and to indicate the individual treatment for each patient. Two patients that have reported the same problem may require different treatments, as there are several factors that can differentiate them such as age, sex, complexion, skin type and adjacent tissues, treatments, diseases and previous surgeries, smoking and drug use, lactation, and previous pregnancies, among others. Photos may be a useful reference but may never replace medical evaluation. The cost of the operation can only be told after a diagnosis.

How long is the recovery period?

Every healing process has three stages: inflammation, cell proliferation and relaxation of the scar. During these stages a variety of physical and chemical processes are produced in the body which are reflected in the patient through various signs such as swelling, sometimes bruising, hardening of the treated areas, strange sensations, redness and discoloration of the wound, as well as the relaxation of the tissues, that lasts an average of 1 year. However, relative rest is recommended in most cases for an average of 5 days, which may vary depending on the type and extent of surgery performed.

Does the laser mean no incisions or cuts?

The láser, (acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulate Emission of Radiation) is a device that generates a controlled beam that acts in the tissues, stimulating different processes depending on the type of laser and tissue. It is used as primary and complementary treatment of several surgeries. Such treatments do not involve incisions and are performed in an outpatient basis.

When can I perform physical exercises?

It depends on the type of surgery. Most interventions are recommended to avoid excessive physical exercises during the first three post-operatory weeks. However, if patient’s daily activity is not intense, they can resume their normal routine a week after the operation.

Do I need any preparation before surgery?

All patients scheduled to undergo surgery should take preoperative blood and urine tests on an empty stomach and a surgical risk with electrocardiogram. Some surgeries may require further tests.

Patients who smoke should stop smoking as early as possible before surgery. Tobacco consumption noticeably alters the scarring process, which increases the risk of problems in wound healing. Hyperbaric medicine is very useful in these cases. Taking aspirin and other anti-inflammatory medicines increases the risk of bleeding and therefore should be discontinued at least 10 days before surgery. The use of contraceptives and some vitamins should be discontinued when possible, and its use must be reported to the treating surgeon in order to take the necessary preventive measures.

Will I take any risk if I undergo plastic surgery?

Any action that is taken during life is subject to some risk; however, in the case of surgery this risk should be minimized. For this, the patient should choose a professional who meets the conditions of preparation and experience, assisted by a first class medical team (surgeons, anesthesiologists and nurses). Can I undergo several surgeries during the same intervention?
